Landscape Architecture Research
Landscape architecture is the profession that practices the art of arranging or modifying the features of a landscape, an urban area, etc., for an aesthetic or practical purpose.
Landscape architecture must be distinguished from landscape design. The American Society of Landscape Architects asserts that someone who makes a career of “landscape architecture”, possesses a higher level of skill, that isn’t possessed by a “landscape designer”.
Landscape Architecture History It was invented by a scotsman in 1828. It uses the ancient skill of garden disigners (to compose landform with water, vegetation, structures and paving) and applies this skill to the man-made landscape. Landscape architecture is concerned with public goods and public spaces. Reference: · Anonymous. Landscape Architecture Theory. Home and Garden. www.gardenvisit.com/landscape-architecture. 2008. Assessment: Assessment is an ongoing process of setting high expectations for student learning. It is a systematic and cyclic process that makes expectations and standards explicit and public. An environmental impact assessment is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the natural, social, and economic aspects. Literature Poem:
A Volcanoe’s MiracleLong ago, the Xitle exploded Cuicuilcas died Rocks grew up.
Plants colonized the rocky field and a new neighborhood started here. Barragán was the man that turned this land, the awesome community of Pedregal.
A beautiful place was found, with flora and fauna all-around. The one we wanted to conserve, like in the project named UNAM.
The university museum has, about all the things in Pedregal. Botanical garden, ecological reserve, art spaces and a soccer place.
Literature Reflections:
Alternative Green Areas in the Alexander Bain InstituteLiterature participated in the Interdisciplinary Project also. The teacher gave each team different poems, all about nature. With this exercise, I realized that really EVERYTHING is interdisciplinary. Most of these poems, reflected information, useful information about nature and other important things. The poem I read told me about the changes of seasons from the point of view of a leaf in a tree. The leaf waits for the autumn to change its color from green to russet, and for the wind to make it fall down. The leaf knows its destiny, but still feels sad for herself and the tree which will at the end fall down when it dies. I think that poem is very difficult to understand. It is nice, and I think it has a nice message of nature. This poem makes me feel sad, because we normally don’t think about the leaves that fall, but only about the tree looking empty during autumn. The poem is related to nature because it is about nature, leaves, and trees. Finally, I think the author uses many methaphores, difficult ones, to express her feelings. She writes well and it rhymes. We finally wrote our own poems.

Steps to make an ecological garden 1 Choose the site where we are going to make our “Ecological Garden”. 2 Clean our site from plants that are not original of the Pedregal and remove grass to save the natural resource: water. 3 Choose the right species original from el Pedregal that will work in harmony. 4 Prepare the volcanic rock and plant the selected flora. 5 Observe the process of garden by talking notes and making changes considering the successful growth of the ecological garden.

Why It’s Important to Use the Original Flora of Pedregal de San Angel in Our Ecological Garden It is important to use original flora of the Pedregal de San Angel in our Ecological garden, because it will conserve the original nature we had long ago. It is also important because as these plants don’t need much water, it is not so expensive to maintain. These plants will live and last long; more than others. These plants will help us to conserve, preserve and remember the flora our ancestors had. This flora attracts the original animals from the Pedregal. by: María José Ordóñez
Individual Design Proposal Each member of the team had different ideas for the design of our ecological garden, so each of us made an individual proposal were we wanted to put each of our plants. After we saw everybody’s ideas we made a group design proposal. Where we joined our ideas in just one proposal. By:Maria Rodriguez Diaz
Our Proposal... Our proposal was to make an ecological garden with original plants of the Pedregal de San Ángel. We wanted to make a green area with them, because they are less expensive to conserve, look nice, and last more than other plants. This is because these plants need very little water and stand being in high climate conditions without water.
From all the plants of the Pedregal we researched about, we decided to work with: -“Oreja de Burro”
- “Tecoma or Tronadora”
- “Agave”
- “Palo Loco” Information by: María José Ordóñez
Our Original Site Our Ecological Garden will take place in the center of the first building and the preschool and kindergarten classrooms. Also next to the chat room pre-school and kindergarten. Also by the corral of prepri and kindergarten where children play and have fun like never before. Information by: Fernando Riveroll

Team Design Proposal for Justification
Team Presentation of Proposal to the Group After the teacher told us which plants we were going to use, and the site where our ecological garden was going to be; each of the four teams in our classroom, made a team design proposal of the garden. First, based on the individual designs each member of the team had make, in our notebook, we made a draft of our team design proposal. Later, we made a poster (which is shown above) of our proposal. This poster had colors and was better elaborated than the draft or sketch. When we finished our poster, we presented our proposal to the group. We told them why we decided to put the plants in those places, and why the design of our garden was the best. Finally, our proposal won and was the base we choose for making the final garden. Information by: María José Ordóñez
Group Design Proposal Based on the different team’s designs proposals we made the group proposal. With this design we made a model to show how the garden was going to look like. There were four team proposals so we choose one to be our first idea. Then each group changed it a little. The group design proposal had to include all the plants we will use: twelve “Orejas de Burro”, one “Tronadora or Tecoma”, two “Agaves”, and four “Palo Locos”. Our model was three dimensional. We made the plants with clay, and we painted them. We used real rocks and some soil, we also used real plants. Information by: Paloma Cárdenas
Presentation to Principals This was the most important thing of the project because we explained the principals what we want to make. All the process we have done and all the team work we have worked in. This presentation was a video made in technology each team had to make different parts of the video. We filmed at school. Finally, the principals gave us the permission to make our ecological garden. Information by: Paloma Cárdenas
VideoIn 6th grade, every year we make an interdisciplinary project. This year, the project is about original plants of the Pedregal of San Ángel, that’s why we will make an ecological garden. We needed to convince the teachers and principals to do it so we made a video about our proposals and the benefits the garden gave our school. My team and I made the introduction. In this introduction we included the plants we were going to use, how were we going to make it, and where. First we made a script in the computer for the video, where we included the time each spot was including, transitions, music, and effects. After we did that, we started recording each of our parts and edited them. Then, we made the presentation to our teachers and principals… Finally, they accepted the proposal.Information by: Augusto López
Making The Garden Finally we started making our garden. In science class we started with Professor Rodrigo González, who helped us doing our firs job: removing the trash and the plants that weren't original from the Pedregal de San Ángel. To plant the original plants, we had to dig a hole, and then put the plant inside the hole, and finally, cover the hole with earth. We found many trash by digging in our original site; like a Milky Way wrap paper, glitter, a Coca Cola can, died roots, insects, a pencil, a root named bulb, and many other polluting and strange things. The first thing we planted was the “Oreja de burro”. We had so much fun with these exercise.Information by: Paloma Cárdenas
Making the Garden Images The next images were taken, when we planted the species of original plants of the Pedregal de San Ángel, that we are using to make our ecological garden.
